Overview

Beacon Hospital is recruiting a Radiation Therapist for its Radiotherapy Department in Dublin.

This is a fixed-term contract ending on 17 March 2028.

About the role

The Radiation Therapist provides professional clinical assessment, planning and treatment-delivery skills for assigned radiotherapy patients.

The post holder delivers radiation treatment according to written prescriptions and treatment plans, provides patient education and support, monitors radiation-therapy side effects and coordinates care with the multidisciplinary team.

The role includes on-call coverage for emergency radiotherapy treatment situations.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care and perform specialist radiotherapy techniques and routines
  • Assess patients for radiation-therapy side effects and deliver appropriate interventions within scope of practice
  • Educate patients on treatment procedures and potential side effects
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families and refer to appropriate community or hospital support services
  • Deliver prescribed radiation treatment safely and identify or report deviations from planned treatment delivery
  • Take and review pre-treatment verification images according to departmental procedures
  • Collect simulation data and accurately enter treatment-related information into the patient-management system
  • Document patient care and maintain confidentiality
  • Perform and document daily and weekly quality-assurance activities for assigned equipment
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, departmental QA meetings, audits, accreditation and health-promotion activities
  • Provide on-call coverage for emergency treatment situations

Requirements

  • Completion of a formal radiation therapy technology programme at an Irish, EU or AMA-approved institution
  • Current CORU registration
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of current developments in radiotherapy and hospital policies
  • Commitment to quality, patient dignity, confidentiality, safe practice and continuing professional development
