Overview
Beacon Hospital is recruiting a Staff Nurse for its Endoscopy Department in Dublin.
The post provides professional nursing care for patients attending diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures.
About the role
The Staff Nurse assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care for assigned endoscopy patients.
The role includes technical assistance during endoscopic and non-endoscopic procedures, patient admission and recovery, medication administration, patient education and multidisciplinary collaboration.
The post holder participates in endoscope decontamination, traceability and maintenance, ensuring safe working practices and accurate equipment records.
The role includes participation in out-of-hours endoscopy on-call services and may involve supporting other hospital departments when patient needs require it.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality direct nursing care in accordance with Endoscopy Department policies and procedures
- Support diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures safely
- Assess patients before procedures and support recovery after endoscopy
- Administer and monitor medication, including intravenous medicines, in accordance with training and hospital policy
- Maintain professional, timely and confidential clinical documentation in patient records and Meditech
- Apply aseptic technique, isolation procedures and infection-control measures
- Ensure endoscope and specialist-equipment decontamination, maintenance and traceability
- Coordinate admissions of outpatients, inpatients and patients transferred from other hospitals
- Contribute to audits, JCI accreditation, JAG accreditation, quality improvement and health-promotion initiatives
- Participate in clinical education, orientation and supervision of students and newly appointed staff
Requirements
- Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) Registered General Nurse licence in good standing
- Minimum one year of post-registration experience in an acute setting
- At least six months of experience in an endoscopy setting
- Endoscopy-specific qualifications
- Knowledge of gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases, diagnosis, treatment and health education
- Current Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification
- Ability to provide patient-centred care, prioritise workload and work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
- Understanding of research, evidence-based practice, quality management and JAG accreditation
