Overview
Beacon Hospital is recruiting a Staff Nurse for its Intensive Care Unit in Dublin.
The role provides professional nursing care for allocated patients in a critical-care setting.
About the role
The Staff Nurse assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care for assigned ICU patients.
The post holder provides direct patient care, contributes to individualised care planning and works closely with nursing, medical and multidisciplinary colleagues.
The role includes quality-management, audit, accreditation, health-promotion and ongoing professional-development activities.
The post holder must be flexible for internal rotations and rostering requirements, including night duty and theatre on-call where required.
Key responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care and assume responsibility for allocated ICU patients
- Take nursing histories, identify nursing diagnoses and assess patient-care needs
- Observe, document and communicate clinical signs, symptoms, behaviours and changes in physiological status
- Plan, implement and evaluate individualised nursing interventions in line with the medical plan of care
- Perform admission, discharge and transfer procedures
- Safely administer prescribed medications and treatments
- Apply aseptic technique, isolation procedures and infection-control measures
- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential nursing documentation
- Involve patients’ families and significant others in care as appropriate
- Contribute to quality improvement, audits, hospital accreditation and health-promotion initiatives
- Support the clinical induction and ongoing education of nursing and support staff
Requirements
- NMBI Registered General Nurse licence
- One year of critical-care experience preferred
- Current Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification
- Recent and relevant experience in a specialised area and an acute hospital setting
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong communication, planning, organisation and time-management skills
- Understanding of change management, quality care, patient dignity and confidentiality
- Commitment to continuing professional development and flexible service delivery
