Overview

Beacon Hospital is recruiting a Senior Physiotherapist for its Orthopaedic In-Patient Service in Dublin.

The post reports to the Allied Therapy Manager.

About the role

The Senior Physiotherapist designs, coordinates and delivers an effective Orthopaedic In-Patient Physiotherapy Service in collaboration with ward staff.

The role ensures timely physiotherapy review for hospital orthopaedic patients in line with departmental policy.

The post holder delivers orthopaedic joint-school, prehabilitation and rehabilitation classes for arthroplasty patients in an outpatient setting.

The role may include occasional cross-cover of outpatient orthopaedic clinics and participation in on-call and standby rotas.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the Orthopaedic In-Patient Physiotherapy team with the Allied Therapy Manager, Clinical Specialists and Senior Physiotherapists
  • Deliver evidence-based, person-centred orthopaedic inpatient physiotherapy care
  • Ensure timely assessment and treatment of hospital orthopaedic patients
  • Provide arthroplasty joint-school, prehabilitation and rehabilitation classes
  • Mentor and supervise Staff Grade Therapists, Physiotherapy Assistants and students
  • Participate in staff induction, appraisal, in-service education, research and audit
  • Maintain clinical records, statistics and reports for organisational and legal purposes
  • Review and update orthopaedic service policies
  • Oversee physiotherapy-equipment safety testing and support safe equipment use
  • Contribute to service budgets, consumable expenditure control and capital-equipment replacement planning

Requirements

  • Degree in Physiotherapy or an equivalent qualification
  • Current CORU registration
  • Minimum three years of physiotherapy experience
  • Significant ward-based orthopaedic physiotherapy experience
  • Ability to plan and deliver evidence-based, person-centred care
  • Leadership, mentoring, communication, planning and team-development skills
  • Commitment to continuing professional development, quality improvement and safe clinical practice
  • Postgraduate education in Orthopaedics, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy or Advanced Physiotherapy Practice is desirable
  • Ward-based cardiothoracic physiotherapy, ICU experience or postgraduate musculoskeletal outpatient experience is desirable
