Beacon Hospital is recruiting a Staff Nurse for its Surgical Ward in Dublin.

About the role

The Staff Nurse independently assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care for allocated patients.

The role includes admission, discharge and transfer procedures; medication administration; nursing documentation; patient education; infection prevention and control; and communication with patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team.

The post holder may rotate across specialities as required by the Nursing Manager and may deputise for the Clinical Coordinator when needed.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care and assume responsibility for allocated surgical patients
  • Follow NMBI professional guidelines and Beacon Hospital Surgical and Medical Ward policies
  • Administer medicines and treatments safely in line with medical orders and hospital policy
  • Monitor and document patients’ signs, symptoms, care needs, interventions and outcomes
  • Maintain accurate nursing and ward records
  • Apply aseptic technique, isolation procedures and infection-control measures
  • Support patients’ nutritional needs and involve next of kin where appropriate
  • Escalate changes in patient status to appropriate nursing and medical staff
  • Contribute to ward communication processes, rostering flexibility and quality improvement

Requirements

  • Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) Registered General Nurse licence
  • At least one year of surgical ward experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Recent and relevant experience in a specialised area and acute hospital setting
  • Current knowledge of mandatory clinical training, including Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Strong planning, organisation, communication and time-management skills
  • Commitment to continuing professional development, quality care and patient confidentiality
