Overview

Beacon Hospital is recruiting a Staff Nurse for its Medical Oncology Inpatient Unit in Dublin.

The role provides professional nursing care and support for patients undergoing cancer treatments.

About the role

The Staff Nurse assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care for assigned oncology inpatients.

The post holder works within the multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality, patient-centred care in an acute hospital setting.

The role includes direct care, individualised care planning, admission, discharge and transfer procedures, medication and treatment administration, clinical documentation, patient education and communication with patients, relatives and colleagues.

The post holder must remain flexible to support other departments when patient needs fluctuate.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care and assume responsibility for allocated oncology inpatients
  • Take nursing histories, identify nursing diagnoses and assess patient-care needs
  • Observe, document and communicate changes in signs, symptoms, behaviours and physiological status
  • Plan, implement and evaluate individualised nursing interventions in line with the medical plan of care
  • Perform admission, discharge and transfer procedures
  • Safely administer prescribed medicines, treatments and nursing interventions
  • Apply aseptic technique, isolation procedures and infection-control measures
  • Maintain accurate, timely and confidential clinical records
  • Involve patients’ families and significant others in care as appropriate
  • Contribute to risk management, complaints management, nursing communication and quality-care processes
  • Support clinical induction, staff learning and ongoing professional development

Requirements

  • Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland Registered General Nurse licence in good standing
  • One year of post-registration nursing experience preferred
  • Previous oncology experience preferred
  • Recent and relevant experience in a specialised area and acute hospital setting
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong communication, planning, organisation and time-management skills
  • Understanding of change management, patient dignity, confidentiality and quality improvement
  • Commitment to continuing professional development and flexible service delivery
