Overview

Blackrock Health Blackrock Clinic is recruiting an Enhanced Staff Nurse for its Oncology team in the Florence Nightingale Unit.

The clinic is a JCI-accredited private hospital and part of the Blackrock Health group.

About the role

The Oncology Staff Nurse provides comprehensive, evidence-based and patient-centred nursing care to oncology and palliative-care patients.

The role includes chemotherapy administration, monitoring, continuity of care, patient and family support, and collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues.

The post holder rotates between the inpatient unit and Oncology Day Unit and participates in oncology outpatient-clinic coordination.

The post is full-time at 37.5 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver skilled practical nursing care for oncology and palliative-care patients
  • Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate individualised patient care using evidence-based practice
  • Administer chemotherapeutic drugs safely in accordance with local policy and guidelines
  • Provide holistic support to patients and families with complex oncology and palliative-care needs
  • Monitor patient care and support continuity across oncology services
  • Support patient education and communicate treatment information appropriately
  • Supervise less experienced staff and student nurses
  • Participate in the education and clinical development of nursing colleagues
  • Comply with NMBI Codes of Practice and Blackrock Clinic policies and procedures
  • Maintain awareness of community support for oncology and palliative-care patients

Requirements

  • Full registration in the General Division of the NMBI Register of Nurses
  • At least one year of recent relevant post-registration nursing experience in an acute hospital setting
  • Chemotherapy competence is preferred but not essential; onsite training will be provided
  • Recognised post-registration nursing course, Higher Diploma or postgraduate course in Oncology is desirable, or willingness to undertake relevant training
  • Current Basic Life Support qualification or willingness to obtain it
  • Strong clinical, professional, IT, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Competency in written and spoken English
  • Valid permission to work in the Republic of Ireland or eligibility for a Critical Skills Employment Permit
